I can’t remember what it was like
lying in dark spaces with you,
having you whisper my name.

You used to be so close, too close,
your breath on my skin.

I never thought I would miss it,
never thought I would get the chance,
but now even after all these years,

I still wake up reaching for you.

Now my name on your tongue
sounds like all the years I missed out on,
like promises made and promises undone.

Now it’s all so clear, too clear,
I can’t see anything but you,
never could see anything but you.

Even after all this time,
I still think of dark spaces,

I still think about you.

Hi, I’m Emily and I like to think of myself as a kaleidoscope, but one that ranges from a spectrum of commitment issues to emotional hoarding, all circling around varying shades of anxiety. People say I have trouble ‘staying present’ and I’ve found that daydreaming becomes significantly less acceptable in your 20’s.
